Fiction Quick Story
A Spoof
LOVERS IN UNIFORM – A Spoof by Vikram Karve

The younger girl naval officer – a Lieutenant – parks her scooter and begins strolling to her office within the navy shore establishment – a stone frigate.

The moment she enters her office – she sees her boss – the pinnacle of the Training Department – a center-aged Commander with a salt and pepper beard.

Like her – he too is a “schoolie” landlubber in white uniform – although he’s 15 years her senior – and the senior-most Training Officer on the base.

The Commander (Ed) says anxiously: “Put in your peak cap and come with me fast. The Old Man wants to see you immediately.”

The “Old Man” – their Commanding Officer, a Commodore, seems at them sternly.
They see that the Commodore is furious – he does not return their salute.

Additionally – the Commodore doesn’t ask them to sit down.
The Commodore will get straight to the purpose.

He seems at the younger lady naval officer and asks her: “Where the hell have been you final night ”
“Sir…Sir…” she stutters.

“Come on, speak up – I haven’t got all day,” the Commodore shouts.
“Sir, I had gone for a film,” she says.

“I know – at Eros – I was sitting right behind you,” the Commodore says.
“Sorry Sir – I did not see you – otherwise I’d have absolutely wished you,” she says.

“Don’t give me bullshit – I don’t care two hoots whether you want me or not. I need to know who was that man sitting right subsequent to you – the bugger with whom you were indulging in a disgusting public show of affection – they call it PDA – don’t they ” the Commodore says.

“Yes, Sir – they name it PDA – public show of affection,” the Commander (Ed) says.
“You shut up. Did I ask you… ” the Commodore scowls on the Schoolie Commander (Ed) – who begins trembling inside.

The Commodore appears to be like at the younger woman Lieutenant and barks out loudly: “Speak up, will you Who the hell was that man sitting subsequent to you in the cinema… I saw that you two have been getting intimate – and you had been shamelessly making out with him right there within the movie hall – you had been indulging in most scandalous conduct. And that too in public. Bloody PDA or whatever they name it!”

“Sir – he’s a good friend,” the lady naval officer says.
“Friend… My bloody foot…! The bugger is a sailor…” the Commodore shouts.

“Sir – he is a Chief Period …” the lady naval officer says.
“I know he is a bloody Era. He was on the last ship I commanded…” the Commodore says.

“Sir – he’s Chief Petty Officer,” the lady navy officer says.
“So… Does that make him a bloody officer… Now – young lady – you take heed to me clearly – I won’t have my officers shacking up with sailors…” the Commodore bellows.

The Commodore turns crimson as he shouts – he appears livid with anger.
The Commander (Ed) is perturbed on the Commodore’s profane language, so he says: “Sir, I will counsel her…”

“I advised you to shut your bloody entice, didn’t I… ” the Commodore barks on the Commander (Ed).

“I am sorry, Sir…” the Commander (Ed) says.
Then – the Commodore appears to be like at the young lady navy officer and asks her: “How are you aware this guy ”

“Sir – we’re childhood buddies,” she says.
“You are childhood friends with a sailor… How is that potential… ” the Commodore asks her.

“Sir – we were neighbours – we went to the same school – he was my elder brother’s classmate. And our fathers were good mates – they were from the same hometown. Sir – our fathers were in the navy,” the lady navy officer says.

“Your fathers were officers within the navy ” the Commodore asks her.
“No Sir – our fathers had been sailors – they retired as Master Chief Petty Officers,” the lady naval officer says.

“Oh. So you turned a naval officer – and your bloody boyfriend joined as an Period…” the Commodore says.

“Why the hell didn’t your boyfriend join as an officer… ” the Commodore says.
“Sir – he tried for NDA after school – however he couldn’t clear the exam – but he was selected as an artificer apprentice. His father was retiring that 12 months – and he informed him to join as an apprentice – his father was in a hurry for him to join and settle down in life…” the lady naval officer says.

“And you probably did your graduation and joined the navy as a bloody schoolie… ” the Commodore says.
“Yes, Sir…” the lady naval officer says.

“Anyway – name it destiny – name it luck – call it destiny – but you remember one thing – you might be an officer – and you can’t fraternize with sailors. Is that clear… ” the Commodore says.

“Sir – he plans to stop the navy and join the service provider navy as a marine engineer officer…” the lady naval officer says.

“And when the hell is that going to occur ” the Commodore asks her.
“After 5 years, Sir – the moment he finishes his 15 12 months contract,” the lady naval officer says.

“That’s a great distance off. Now you hearken to me rigorously – so long as you are a naval officer and he’s a sailor in the navy – you are not to meet him or maintain contact with him in any approach – you are not to have any sort of relationship or friendship with him – is that clear… ” the Commodore says firmly.

“Sir – Please Sir – he’s greater than a friend – we are thinking of getting married,” the lady naval officer says.

“You wish to get married to a sailor… Are you bloody loopy… I hope he will not be screwing you – that’s the last bloody thing we want – officers and sailors fornicating with each other…!” the Commodore yells.

“Sir – please don’t use such foul language…” the lady naval officer says.
“Oh! So you don’t like foul language, is it Okay, young lady – I will speak to you in plain and simple language that you could understand. Now you pay attention fastidiously – if you happen to don’t do as I say – for those who meet that sailor once more – you can be in deep bother – we are going to throw the ebook at you,” the Commodore says menacingly.

“Throw the guide at me, Sir ” the lady naval officer asks.
“The Navy Act – I counsel you buy a copy – it is accessible at any bookstore which sells law books. Of course – there could also be a copy in our library too. And ensure you learn Chapter VIII – Articles of Warfare…” the Commodore says.

“Articles of War… Sir – however there is no warfare happening…” the lady naval officer says, confused.

“The Articles of Warfare are a set of laws – the statutory provisions within the Navy Act that regulate and govern the conduct and behaviour of officers and sailors of the navy – and since you’re within the navy – they apply to you too – and they very a lot apply to that high-and-mighty Chief Petty Officer – that bloody boyfriend of yours. We will see to it that each of you’re punished severely…” the Commodore says threateningly.

“Sir – however what unsuitable have we achieved… We are just in love with one another. And please inform me what’s his fault… Is it his fault that he is a sailor and he is love with me who’s an officer… Sir – I don’t need you to hurt him in any means…” the lady naval officer pleads.

“You are asking me what flawed you may have executed… I advised you, didn’t I You might be an Officer. He is a Sailor. And – an Officer cannot fall in love with a Sailor – that is what is improper. You’re both are responsible of fraternization – so we’ll cost you both – and both of you are likely to face courtroom-martial…” the Commodore warns the lady officer.

“Court-martial… Sir – please don’t say such things. You are speaking as if we’ve got broken the legislation – as if we’ve got committed some grave offence…” the lady naval officer says, trembling with trepidation.

“Of course, you have got committed an offence,” the Commodore says matter-of-factly.
“Offence What offence have we dedicated, Sir We are just seeing each other. With what offence can you cost us ” the lady naval officer asks.

“We can all the time cost you with the “catch-all offence” – you’ll be charged with conduct prejudicial to good order and naval self-discipline – each of you – underneath Part seventy four of the Navy Act.”

“Sir – please inform me. How is our conduct prejudicial to good order and naval self-discipline You wish to charge us with breaking self-discipline simply because we went out collectively on a date… ”

“Yes. You’re an officer and he is a sailor – it’s essential to respect the distinction in your ranks. You’re breaking discipline by fraternizing with a sailor and not respecting the difference in rank. An officer engaging in an unduly familiar relationship with a sailor is prejudicial to good order and naval discipline and is unacceptable behaviour. It’s just not executed. It’s gross indiscipline. Do you understand ”

“Sir, it’s our private life. We see each other when we are off-responsibility – and we meet exterior in civilian areas. So how are we breaking discipline ”

“There isn’t any private life when you be part of the navy. You higher fall in line and behave yourself – otherwise you each will likely be charged and punished – and – as for you there’s another thing…” the Commodore says.

“What, Sir ” the lady naval officer says.
“Since you’re an officer – you may be additionally charged with scandalous conduct unbecoming the character of an officer.”

“Scandalous… Conduct unbecoming the character of an officer… ” the lady naval officer asks, bewildered.

“Yes – conduct unbecoming of an officer. That’s part fifty four (2) of the Navy Act – go and examine it up. I informed you we will throw the book at you when you don’t behave yourself…” the Commodore says, looking the Lady Lieutenant in the eye.

The young lady naval officer – the Lady Lieutenant – seems to be as if she goes to break down with fear.

Then – the Commodore looks on the Schoolie Commander (Ed) – and the Commodore shouts on the Schoolie Commander: “As for you – when you don’t cease her from persevering with this nonsense – we’ll cost you with abetment of all of the offences she is committing – and you may say goodbye to your career.”

“Abetment… ” the flabbergasted Schoolie Commander (Ed) asks.
“Go and skim Part 76 of the Navy Act,” the Commodore says to the Schoolie Commander (Ed).

The Schoolie Commander starts trembling – and he mumbles, “Yes, Sir.”
The Commodore warns the Schoolie Commander, “I guarantee you that if this hanky-panky doesn’t stop immediately – all of you’ll be in big trouble – you – Commander (Ed) – the sailor boyfriend – and particularly you, younger lady,” the Commodore says – turning to the young lady naval officer.

The Commodore seems on the Lady Lieutenant and repeats his final phrases: “Yes – particularly you, Lieutenant – you can be in real deep hassle – they might even throw you out of the Navy – dismissed with disgrace…”

While the Commodore commanding the stone frigate is studying the riot act to the young lady naval officer – the Captain of the frigate (the ship on which the younger woman’s lover, the Chief Petty Officer, is borne) is appearing with speed and dispatch.

Yes – the Captain of the ship is taking swift action on the Lady Lieutenant’s boyfriend – her “lover boy” sailor.

Earlier than he realizes what is going on – the hapless sailor is immediately transferred to a ship headed east – to be dropped off to his new obligation station on a distant desolate island in the middle of the sea.

Subsequent morning – the young lady naval officer is sitting in a train – on her option to take up her new appointment as the Training Officer of a small naval base in a distant place within the “back of beyond”.

The “powers-that-be” hope that distance will make the ardour of the lovers cool off.
As they are saying: … “out of sight” – “out of mind” …

In true navy style – an awkward drawback has been neatly solved.
The “lovers in uniform” have been separated.

A scandalous liaison has been terminated.
A messy courtroom martial has been avoided.

Navy customs and traditions have been upheld.
As the rushing train heads towards her new vacation spot – the Lady Lieutenant yearns for her boyfriend – sure – naval officers have “hearts” too.

Stone Island Hoodie In BlackAs her heart aches for her “lover boy” sailor – the heartbroken young lady naval officer remembers the consoling words of her ex-boss, the Schoolie Commander, who had come to see her off at the railway station: “The Navy is a System – and it is best to never battle towards the system – as a result of the system at all times wins…!”

“Fraternization” is a uniquely military idea.

“Fraternization” is the time period traditionally used to identify private relationships that contravene the customary bounds of acceptable senior-subordinate relationships.

In the Defence Companies – “Fraternization” is prohibited as a result of it is considered to be prejudicial to good order and self-discipline.

Any “unduly acquainted relationship” between a senior and a junior is deemed to be fraternization.

Marriage (which incorporates intimate sexual relationship) is an “unduly acquainted relationship”.
Many different relationships like relationship, residing collectively and different intimate friendships will also be deemed to be “unduly familiar relationships”.

Strictly speaking – prohibition of Fraternization should apply to all Military Personnel – each to Officers and to PBOR (Personnel Beneath Officer Rank which comprise all Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen).

Nonetheless – in the Indian Armed Forces – a variety of leniency is proven so far as relationships between senior male officers and junior feminine officers are involved (despite their difference in rank).

Many male officers have “unduly acquainted relationships” with feminine officers (marriage).
Is this not “fraternization”

Strictly speaking – it is fraternization.
Nevertheless – in follow it is not treated as “fraternization”.

In truth – “brother officers” are permitted to marry “sister officers” – yes – male officers are allowed to marry female officers.

There are numerous “in-service couples” in the Armed Forces – and this development of DIFC (Double Revenue Fauji Couples) is rising in all of the three Defence Companies.

Someone even stated that the Army, Navy and Air Power encourage marriages between uniformed “Fauji” officers by offering numerous sops like frequent postings (partner postings) and dual accommodation seniority carry ahead and many others.

This encouragement to “marriage in uniform” is obvious in case you observe the increasing variety of marriages between male officers and feminine officers within the uniformed providers.

Does this not go towards the tenets of “fraternization”
Suppose – in the Navy – a male Commander marries a feminine Lieutenant – or – in the Military – a male Lieutenant Colonel marries a female Captain – or – within the Air Pressure – a male Squadron Chief marries a feminine Flight Lieutenant – is it not a case of “fraternization”…

Surprisingly – marriages and intimate relationships between two officers will not be thought-about “fraternization” in the Indian Armed Forces.

It is okay for a male officer to have an “unduly familiar relationship” (marriage) with a feminine officer – regardless of their difference in seniority.

But – what is going to happen if a feminine defence officer wants to marry a male soldier, sailor or airman…

It will possibly happen – anybody can fall in love with anybody.
Will the armed forces permit officers to marry soldiers, sailors or airmen

For example – will the Army permit a feminine Major to marry a male JCO…
Like in the story above – will the Navy permit a female Lieutenant to marry a male Chief Petty Officer…

If officers can marry, date, romance or have relationships with other officers – then why prohibit relationships between officers and PBOR (Personnel Under Officer Rank)…

Strictly speaking – fraternization contains officer-officer relationships as properly – and should apply to intimate/romantic relationships between two officers of various seniority.

Nevertheless – it seems that the definition of “fraternization” has been tweaked to use only to relationships between officers and PBOR (troopers, sailors, airmen).

Such Officer/PBOR relationships are thought of taboo – whereas relationships and marriages between senior officers and junior officers is considered okay

As society becomes more modern and progressive – issues could change.
Chances are you’ll say that’s is a colonial legacy of the “Raj” – however – at current – the “class system” is still prevalent in India – each within the Defence Services” – and even within the Civilian Bureaucracy.

All over the place ” there are two classes – Officers and Non-Officers.
Coming back to life in army uniform – will class limitations ever break down – not less than so far as “fraternization” is anxious

Maybe – it will happen someday in the near future.
Till then – “fauji” love tales that cross the “class barrier” will have unhappy endings – like the story of the in poor health-fated “Lovers in Uniform”. If you share this put up, please give due credit score to the creator Vikram Karve
