After eight years of Republicans’ rule when Democrats came to power this year some fundamental changes were expected in the US foreign policy towards several important regions of the world including South Asia. How different is the Obama administration’s policy for Pakistan from that of its predecessor’s and how the past mistakes in the Pak US relations can be avoided is the topic of discussion and research of many US experts. The package is based on an event organized by CATO featuring Ambassador Wendy Chamberlin, Ken Luongo, president of the ‘Partnership for Global Security’, and Malou Innocent, foreign policy analyst.

"A suspected US missile strike has killed at least eight students at a religious school in north-western Pakistan, witnesses say.
The school, in North Waziristan, is close to the residence of a fugitive Taleban leader, Jalaluddin Haqqani, witnesses told the BBC Urdu Service."

No British troops are fihting terrorists in Pakistan, it is the American troops making these incursions, and air strikes.

does anyone have any info as to how / why the ARY Oneworld news channel has literally disappeared from Sky. it was channel 819 and was a urdu/english language news channel.

I just found this on a website. hope it helps.

ARY One World ceases broadcasting in the UK
ARY Digital’s current affairs channel ARY One World has been axed in the UK after only eighteen months on air.

A channel official confirmed that ARY One World ceased broadcasting on Sky Digital today. A decision made by the company said that it was to relay its news output on flagship channel ARY Digital instead.

In an interview with BizAsia.co.uk earlier this year, the channel’s Vice President Fayaz Ghafoor had hinted about the increase of primetime news on ARY Digital but refused to divulge further information. It’s now evident the reason for this change was to mark the exit for ARY One World.

Asked if ARY One World’s EPG slot on Sky Digital will be replaced with another channel, the broadcaster said it had no such plans to at this stage.

The ARY Digital UK Network now consists of only three channels – ARY Digital, The Muzik and ARY QTV.

Dear speakers of Hindi & Urdu on YA,

Please consider the following two sentences,
which contrast only in the position of the emphatic particle [hii].

Then… match each sentence with
the translation that fits it the best, a) or b):

1) naukaR ne hii ghaRii curaa-y-ii.

2) naukaR hii ne ghaRii curaa-y-ii.

a) The SERvant stole a WATCH ! (shocking news!)

b) The SERVANT stole the watch ! (so he was the one after all !)
In point of fact, Ms. Meenakshi, you have dealt this silly problem the coup-de-grâce…

The contradictory answers I have collected elsewhere can all be put down to the fact that 1) is syntactically and semantically quite fixed, while 2) reflects at least two syntactic and corresponding semantic structures…
ouch, my head….

1-b . this is a very clear match.

2-a . but this is not so clear-cut. It all depends on how one vocalizes it; which syllables are emphasized; what sort of expression is used – exclamatory, questioning, statement-of-fact, absolute statement, gossipy….
for it to be Shocking, there has to be some conspiratorial tone, a disbelief. i don’t believe that the mere placement of HII in 2) is doing the job unambiguously. the tone has to be congruent with the words.

have i helped any?
i’m getting all muddled up myself !

Dear speakers of Hindi & Urdu on YA,

Please consider the following two sentences,
which contrast only in the position of the emphatic particle [hii].

Then… match each sentence with
the translation that fits it the best, a) or b):

1) naukaR *HII* chor niklaa !

2) *NAUKAR* hii chor niklaa !

a) The servant turned out to be *a* THIEF !
(shocking news!)

b) The SERVANT turned out to be *the* thief !
(so he was the one after all !)
Yes, yes, this makes perfect sense.

okay, now i understand my confusion ! it’s to do with the caps you use in the English translation, along with the bracketed qualifiers ! i’ll check my answer to previous Q, to confirm/alter….

in this case -

1) naukaR *HII* chor niklaa !
b) The SERVANT turned out to be *the* thief !
(so he was the one after all !)
my version :
b) The servant turned out to be *the* thief !

2) *NAUKAR* hii chor niklaa !
a) The servant turned out to be *a* THIEF !
(shocking news!)
my version :
a) The SERVANT turned out to be *a* thief !

hope this helps
all the very best :-)
