I hate these countries first of all. Because they didn’t like India live in peace. They do all sorts of things to destroy India’s peace. If these countries join hands and declare war against India. What will happen?
Whether this UPA government have capable of tackling this war?
I don’t think this UPA government have that guts to tackle.
Time is coming up now. We (Indians) have to strengthen our Military Equipments. We cannot continue with 50years old equipments. I am always fear of these countries. Even though Pakistan and Srilanka are small countries. They always involve in activities against India is worrying factor.
Why this UPA government doesn’t care about all these things. Infact daily news channels showing pictures of Pakistani Rocket attack on Kashmir. Srilankan army killing innocent Tamil fishermen when this UPA government will act. If we continue like this………………
No country respect India. No country fear about India.
Our government should do something that is also immediately to create some fear for especially Pakistan, Srilanka, Nepal and Bangladesh immediately. Otherwise these people join hands with China and attack India

You have excluded another neighbouring country Myanmar or Burma in your list. It is purely a hypothetical question you have put. Things do not happen the way you think. There is neither the situation nor the developments that suggest any such apprehension. But for the sake of arguement, if such a situation arises India shall have to fight and still it is capable of winning provided the leadership at the time of war is capable of taking decisions on the spot. In such situations the Military leadership may have to take over the task of defence from the hands of the politicians. The nuclear arsenals would be put to use for maximisation of damage on the enemy countries and minimisation of damage on the self.

In international relations each development has its logical corollary that dictates the next move. Before such a situation emerges, the other like minded countries like the USA, Israel etc. would also be backing India. But nothing can stop you from thinking that, in case all the countries are opposed to India or remain neutral and India is isolated against her own neighbours, then my answer would remain the same as before.

Why do you say, ‘No country respects India’. Or ‘ No country fears India’. You are a typical coward; I am sorry for such a comment, which I could not help. Your love for your country is misplaced. Be proud of the fact that ,as on date, the whole world is looking at India for leadership, particularly in the spiritual sphere. If there is any country afraid of India, it is Communist China and Islamic Pakistan. Their behaviour exposes their fear. I wish, you should study more about your country; rather than entertain such uncalled for phobia.

AN AMERICAN ‘HONOR KILLING’

By JOHN P. AVLON

July 23, 2008 –

ON July 6, police say, a Pakistani named Chaudhry Rashid strangled his 25-year-old daughter San- deela Kanwal with a Bungee cord in her bedroom because she wanted to end her arranged marriage. This "honor killing" came not in Pakistan, but in Jonesboro, Ga. – a suburb 16 miles outside Atlanta.

At his arraignment, Rashid said through an Urdu interpreter that he was "not in the state of mind to talk because of the death of his daughter," but stated "I have done nothing wrong."

This is not the same as declaring innocence. His attorney, Tammy Long, explained, "My client is going through a difficult time. As you can imagine, he is distraught." Apparently, it takes a stronger man to murder his daughter without sentiment.

The national media has paid little attention to the story of Kanwal’s murder, though most outlets found plenty of time to debate the cover of The New Yorker.

When a blonde girl goes missing, cable networks stop in their tracks – but when a Muslim woman is murdered by her father, there’s not a ripple of sustained interest. Where’s the outrage?

Maybe it’s muted because we’ve grown reluctant to pass judgment on other culture’s customs – but multiculturalism hits a crossroads when honor killings come to America.

The United Nations estimates that the world sees 5,000 honor killings a year – overwhelmingly in the Middle East, South Asia and Africa, but increasingly among Muslim immigrant communities in Europe.

The United States has avoided this bloodstained trend until recently. Some consider Kanwal’s death the first documented honor killing here. Others point to the murder of sisters Amina and Sarah Said in Irving, Texas, on New Years’ 2007. (Their MySpace page remains up. Featuring assimilated teen culture and American music, it is haunting.) Their father remains on the run from police.

Few doubt that other honor killings have occurred behind closed doors. In upstate Monroe County just a few days ago, a girl was stabbed by her brother for wearing immodest western clothing and wanting to move to New York City. According to court documents, Waheed Allah Mohammad explained the stabbing by saying his sister was a "bad Muslim girl."

"Honor killing is a misnomer," author and exile Ayaan Hirsi Ali told me. "The killing occurs because these girls have allegedly brought shame on their family. The paradox is that these are individuals who have emancipated themselves.

"These girls embody the American dream. They want to become self-reliant – deciding who they marry, when they marry and how many children they will have."

On the surface, this sounds like a classic case for the left – outrages well worth protesting. Honor killings and other tribal customs like female genital mutilation represent a far greater threat to human rights than comparatively benign examples of Western sexism, like unrealistic measurements on a Barbie doll.

But this would require recognizing that the greatest danger to civil liberties in the world today comes not from the United States, but from a medieval tribalism that’s still murdering people around the world under the guise of enforcing piousness.

"America is an assimilating nation," affirms Ayaan, "and so when immigrant Muslim men assimilate into American society they are applauded for it. But when some immigrant Muslim women assimilate into American society, they find themselves ostracized – beaten and even killed by their own families. And the American public ignores their plight to protect the immigrant Muslim community from stigma."

There should be wall-to-wall coverage when Rashid’s pretrail hearings begin tomorrow in Atlanta. By any standards, this is a sensational crime.

Instead, the trial may well get dismissed as old news or swept under the rug as just another domestic-violence case. These rationalizations cover up a discomfort with wading into cultural judgment – and a desire to avoid the risk of violence that always comes with criticizing radical Islam.

There’s a cost to such squeamishness. In England, Lord Chief Justice Phillips, the country’s top judge, has said that sharia law should be incorporated into British law, while the Archbishop of Canterbury described such incorporation as "inevitable."

This slippery slope threatens to undermine liberal democracy and even the concept of civilized norms. America must make a stand, because many Europeans either can’t or won’t.

As Ayaan says: "As an immigrant Muslim woman running for your life, from your own family, I think America is a better place for us, because we know that Americans are individualist enough that they will ultimately chose to protect us – while Europeans choose to stick their heads in the sand and pretend nothing is going on."

Our ultimate victory in the War on Terror will be to encourage a Muslim reformation by offering examples of successful Muslim-American citizens – especially women – who thrive within the equal rights and open opportunities of American society. For Muslim women who want to live in freedom, America is the last best hope on earth – and we must remain nothing less.

John P. Avlon is the author of "Independent Nation: How Centrists Can Change American Politics."

Thanks for sharing, really.
I’m not really a feminist or anything, but I’ve been aware of these "honor killings" that are growing more common in places like Canada and Europe–and now America unfortunately.
I don’t understand why this isn’t bigger news, i really don’t. It’s alarming to me. We need to know what’s happening, and we need to tell them that we won’t tolerate it. I find the line about Europeans not doing anything about it true. (it reminds me of a book i read parts of: America Alone by Mark Steyn)

maybe the media’s afraid? afraid they’ll come off as racist or anti-multiculturist or whatever. maybe they want to appease Muslims? avoid another terrorist attack or protest? they want to promote only good stereotypes? they’re afraid someone will accuse them of judging their religion? those are just some ideas, i really don’t know. but i’m glad someone is out there reporting this. It’s very real and serious. I know this because I have many muslim friends. some send their children to their home countries to be "better muslims" others i’ve learned know others who have been close to honor killings or any killings made in the name of their religion or whatever (they live in palestine though).

anyway, sorry i didn’t answer your question, but thank you for sharing. the public needs to know, and these girls need to know that they needn’t live in fear. by the way, i agree with everything this article says. (i think you can find your answer in there, but if you were looking for a different one, sorry i don’t have one…)

Human society, from origin until now, has always been at war within and between groups and has led to two World Wars. Presently, terrorism and low intensity warfare are affecting many parts if the world.

As the current global population of 6 billion increases to 8 billion by 2025, national and international conflicts will continue to be a source of concern for humanity. When evil minds combine, good minds have to work together and combat.
It is a privilege to be on Yahoo. I am here to offer my answer to the question raised by the President of India on Terrorism.

.

The answer to this is straight. Address the minds. . Before the terrorists fire weapons, terrorism is already in their minds. If we have to work for prevention we will need to address the minds first. Because violence first grows in the minds, just as peace does.

Education.
The best and most certain way to change behavior or belief of any kind is not force or threat, but education.
If you can logically explain to someone why something is wrong, counter-productive, ill advised or makes them look stupid, they will cease the behavior.
If you simply tell them that their actions/beliefs will cause them discomfort, cause anger from others or is wrong according to your beliefs, they will probably continue to follow their inner guidance, undetered by you.
The only consistantly effective way to change their inner guidance is through education
Well sir, this is a complicated question with endless answers. There is no right answer and, with that said, there is absolute wrong answer. Every culture, ethnicity, nation and organization is going to have different approaches with varying motives. With that fact present, the only answer is for everyone to listen and be tolerant. If the world plays the "me vs. you" attitude like it has for centuries, terrorism will only fuel itself, rather than extinguish itself. Only a fool would think that bombing a country, and destroying an infrastructure will magically eliminate a system of beliefs deep within the roots of people’s minds.

War is mankind’s most ignoble, wasteful pursuit. It waste physical and emotional resources and worst of all time itself. Until we learn to fully appreciate and tolerate one another as individuals and equals no matter what our race, religion, philosophy or socioeconomic status the tender fabric of human lives will be rent asunder by the violence of war. The first step is to ameliorate physical suffering and fear for security that are endemic to many populations, then educate them about the rest of the world, convince everyone to stop brain washing young children and make certain that all humans have their needs met and at least some of their desires fulfilled. The irony is that if the resources spent on wars were not wasted then this could possibly even be accomplished. To completely fulfill this many privileged would need to recognize that they must share more and not be arrogant and adamant. I can only wish that this would happen so that there could be peace; perhaps one day some great person will devise a means to bring this about.

Sir,

I really believe that the real evil is not the terrorism. It is the media and everything they do to undermine efforts to combat terrorism, in the name of free speech.

Until we make the media accountable for their false reportings and reportings that undermine efforts, then terrorism will feed on the information given.

I believe in freedom of speech, I also believe that with that freedom comes great responsibility to report the truth or nothing at all if it inhibits any government from operating special operations. So with great freedom comes responsibility and accountability.

We need an international effort to help educate the world on a social level. Much of the fighting is based on fears that are unwarranted and could be resolved if both sides understood each other. Humanity instinctively fears what it does not know. Eliminate the ignorance, and you eliminate much of the intolerance. We need to present our cultures on a human level, instead of a generalization. It wouldn’t be a cure all, and would probably be a large expense. But even saving one life from a death by ignorance would be priceless.

Let me first mention that it is an absolute honour getting to answer your question. Thank you for this timely put forward question of yours concerning one of the gravest issues mankind has ever faced i.e. terrorism.

Coming to your question, I think this is the question you have asked yourself many a times while the execution of the prime convict of the terrorist attack on our parliament rested on a single nod or “nay” of yours. I know the decision isn’t entirely yours but, as publicized by media—your stand in Afzal’s case does matter.

Before I put forward my answer, I would like to analyze, from whatever I have seen, read and pondered over; the root-cause(s) of terrorism.

Terrorism has different facets, different levels of severity and different circumstantial causes. But in my view, it has common roots which start growing with mistrust, grow to the limits of distrust and end up bringing the involved communities/ individuals into disrepute.

Two communities which have different interests (take any two fast developing countries for example) have a certain air of competition and mistrust between each other. A few occurrences of miscommunication, lack of communication or vile acts of a few people who do not belong anywhere spark the feelings of enmity and complete loss of trust. This is where the targets i.e. both the opposing parties are “softening up” themselves for the heinous crimes of terrorism.

When we directly or indirectly segregate ourselves from others, we plant a negative thought in their minds. And the thought reads- “indifference.” Yes, we start off as being “indifferent” to each others’ woes. Actually, as humans, we are somehow destined to connect and be affected by each other. “Indifference” is tougher to achieve than to mention.

In an attempt to remain indifferent to your neighbour’s woes, you actually end up hating his success(es) which I believe is the first step in the direction of inhumanity and terror.

There is another way terrorism can branch out of its roots. The other way is called “insecurity”. Difference of interests among two communities which are both even on all grounds is not as dangerous a situation as is the difference between those two communities among which one is dominant over the other. The smaller and weaker community is weak in totality but the same cannot be said about the members of the weaker community. A human is never born weak. When they sense that the bigger tree is sucking away all the nutrition from the earth, they feel insecure (ironically, a trait of the meek) and resort to terrorism.

Sometimes, it is just the human within us that gets the best of us. The “mob mentality” it is! Most of the times the wrong-doers are a few but they are the loudest and hence the most apparent. We form “generalizations” (here comes another of the roots of terrorism i.e. quick generalizations) based on those few loud members of a community which leads to misinformation and hence, miscommunication.

Now, that I have made clear what I think is the cause of terrorism as a whole; let me put forward my humble answer to you. I hope you like it.

I have never been a big fan of the capital punishment per se. As I have already suggested that the roots of terror are very deep rooted—so much so, that if you completely shift your perspective to match that of a member of the community which is said to be churning out terrorists, you can somewhat justify your means. This is the reason you have to kill the cause and not the people. The easiest method to do it, the way I see it, is by the help of communication. What starts off with miscommunication can possibly be uprooted by communication.

To bring it down to Layman’s terms: When an Indian chats with a German, a French, an Afghan, an Iraqi or a Pakistani; they do not sound like they are any different from him. We all love good music, we all love our family and we all follow the same fundamental philosophies of life. There might be differences of interest superficially but, as humans we all just bleed red. This fact needs to be spread and shared with everyone and the only way to do it is communication and media. Movies have been a bridge between India and other countries for decades
.
Promote Secularism through textbooks.
I am thankful to all those chapters in the textbooks I had growing up which had pictures and stories of a Hindu and a Muslim celebrating each other’s festivals with joy and goodwill. A tender mind in childhood can be moulded in any desired way. Let us sculpt a transparent mind with room for respect towards every human culture and religion and no room for envy and hatred. Let’s make communalism a no issueWorldwide Television and Radio.
How about this—all the nations of the world join hands with UN (or create an organization of their own) to put to air a few satellite Television and Radio channels which cover features, news, music, cultural sketches and special stories from all over the globe(?) Every nation gets an equal opportunity to display all the good things it has to offer and share with rest of the world. This would promote mutual understanding and perpetual dissolution of hostility or lack of respect towards each other. The beauty pageants, a few TV channels are doing just that. But, I think we need to do it more often, on a grander scale and with better communicability.

By better communicability I mean that the material should either be dubbed or be staged in local languages (with some added local flavour). I guess, there can be better ways to share cultures. This was the best I could think of. I’ll wait for the time when we will have more performers of “worldwide” fame and a better and bigger audience of every form of art. Terrorism will die screaming under all this.

3- A Fearless Stand.
As people, I think it is our responsibility to get our views registered. Getting noticed is not in our hands but raising voices is. When you think something wrong is going on, you have to do something about it. As a journalist, you have to let is be known to people; as a blogger, you have to blog about it, as a Newspaper reader, you have to e-mail the editor about it… some way or the other, we all have to stand firm and express our viewpoint. You have to learn this from the enemy. They are always fewer than us, but they get their violent thoughts known to the world. Why can’t we fight back with the same weapon?

SORRY,THIS WAS ALREADY ASKED BY A CELEB.
